Dark Skies Information

Picture
In 2001, the City of Flagstaff became the world's first "International Dark Sky City", a designation awarded by the International Dark Sky Association, dedicated to preserving and protecting the nighttime environment and the heritage of dark skies.  Our town is recognized as a destination for astronomers, who appreciate Flagstaff as an ideal location for stargazing, and we residents enjoy our clear starry nights throughout the year.  But our skies are threatened by light pollution, which can be reduced by small simple choices we all make.  For more information about what you can do to enhance the nighttime environment of our part of Arizona, check out the Flagstaff Dark Skies website and informational brochure.
